What Will Happen During My Emergency Visit?
Patients can expect gentle and comprehensive dentistry when they visit our Foothill Ranch, CA dental office. During your time with us, Dr. Kim will review your dental emergency, along with your medical and oral health history. We will examine your teeth and gums, in particular the area that is bothering you.
To evaluate your dental issue, Dr. Kim may require diagnostic imaging through digital x-rays, panoramic x-rays, or an intraoral camera to generate images of your teeth, gum tissue, nerves, and bone.
Once we complete your evaluation, Dr. Kim will design your custom dental emergency treatment plan. Each patient has different smile needs, which are factored in the treatment plan. At Healthy Living Dentistry, we offer emergency dental services that can treat the full spectrum of oral health needs, including root canal therapy, dental extractions, dental implants, and natural-looking restorations for chipped or broken teeth.
If you’re feeling anxious about your dental emergency, we offer sedation dentistry to manage your pain and allow you to feel at ease.
We try to keep our patients happy and healthy by promoting general and preventive dentistry before and after your dental emergency.
What Should I Do During a Dental Emergency?
Being in a new and painful situation can be incredibly stressful. Part of the stress is not knowing how to handle the situation. Here are some helpful tips on how to navigate your dental emergency and maximize your chances of saving your tooth:
- Broken tooth—This is a time-sensitive situation that needs to be addressed quickly. Rinse your mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress for up to 20 minutes to help manage the pain until you can see us
- Knocked-out tooth—If your tooth has been loosened or knocked out, we can still save it if we see you within 30 minutes of the accident. In the meantime, keep the roots moist by storing the tooth in your mouth or a glass of milk or water.
- Broken restorations—A broken dental crown or bridge may not be a dire emergency, but it does need to be fixed to prevent infection.
